What’s Next?

Posted on Monday, April 1, 2013 in Uncategorized

Sweet ViolaYesterday was Easter.

In the scope of human history, obviously, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a big deal, but I never really thought much about the forty days after the resurrection. Frankly, I thought it might be a bit of divine hide-and-seek before the ascension. 1

What’s Next?

Last year I read Leonard Sweet and Frank Viola’s book, “Jesus: The Theography“. Their take on those forty days was refreshing and enlightening:

“So why the forty days after Jesus’ resurrection? Well, the church’s very existence depended on it. The apostles’ work depended on it. The future of Christ’s work on earth depended on it. Those forty days were the basis for the apostles’ ability to endure the most severe suffering. How? Because in those forty days Jesus proved Himself to be a resurrected human being. Not a ghost. Not a delusion. Not a figment of their imaginations. But a real, living person who had pierced the veil of death and come out on the other side victorious. Luke wrote, “After his suffering,he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”

I love that!

So, What’s Next?

What’s next after the resurrection?
What’s next after Easter?

Look for God at work.
Listen for God at work.

Marvel at God at work.
Join with God at work.

The resurrection happened.
His friends were no fools.

Jesus Christ didn’t die for nothing.
They didn’t die for nothing.

Jesus is alive.
Get to know Jesus and follow his lead.

1 – Divine “hide-and-seek” might seem harsh, and I’ll apologize to God if I’m irreverent, but read this and this!
