Life’s NOT fair. What are they doing about it?

Posted on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in Uncategorized

CryingIt was Easter Sunday. It’s was probably a gorgeous sunny day.

Picture it.

Sunshine and sun dresses. Pretty hats and ironed clothes. Easter Sunday brings out the people who might have set church aside for a time. It’s a time to celebrate. It’s a time to remember the greatest event in human history. It’s a time for spiritual renewal and remembrance. Families reunite. Friends renew friendships. Songs fill their mouths. Joy fills their hearts. Smiles fill the air. Souls sail.

Unless…

Unless it was Easter Sunday in one girl’s life. As my friend Allison reported to me, a young lady she knew about was kicked out of church on Easter Sunday when the church found out that a girl was HIV positive.

I’m sure that they didn’t know what to do with their feelings, their fears and her circumstances, so they turned her away.

Life is NOT fair

She did nothing wrong.
She was a victim.
She was a victim of circumstances.
She was born with HIV.

Into that gap stepped my friend Allison and her big heart. Allison joined the mission of One Heartland to make a difference in the lives of children who know all too well that “life’s not fair.”

As Allison pointed out, Satan, and all takers of life like HIV and Aids, are thieves. Jesus Christ warned and warrantied, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.” 1

Love and sacrifice is what’s needed when lives are at stake.

“Helping improve the lives of children, youth and families facing significant health challenges or social isolation” should have been a church tagline. Instead, filling a gap that at least one church failed to meet, One Heartland stepped into the gap.

Camp Heartland serves children and youth ages 7-15 either infected or directly affected by HIV/AIDS.

Life’s NOT fair. What are you going to do about it?

“Help improve the lives of children, youth and families facing significant health challenges or social isolation” is #mysilentscream.
