Right On The Button, pt 2
As I wrote yesterday the acronym W.A.I.T. is a great reminder — as they say — it’s right on the button.
It’s a big red pause button to stop my panic and prevent me from causing additional pain to myself or others.
I’m talking. Am I trying to coach and counsel? Or, am I trying to control?
Wait, Why Am I Talking?
I think Wait, Why Am I Talking? is a wonderful self-check as I pray as well.
Right On The Button
Sometimes people — myself included — complicate life needlessly.
Yesterday my friend Steve Wiens reminded me of an Anne Lamott’s acronym W.A.I.T. I’ll explain what it means in a moment, but you’ll — pardon the pun — have to wait.
Wait
Lamott’s most recent book “Some Assembly Required: A Journal of My Son’s First Son” describes the challenge she faced, especially in the beginning, as she tried to find a balance between helping and hampering her teenage son who was suddenly faced with an unplanned pregnancy.
Worry Wraps Us Up
This the final entry in a three-part series on chains that lock us down.
To review, “Gotta Be My Way” people and “Drama Draggers” need gentleness; the gentleness God provides will certainly be sufficient.
When we’re chained to self-pity, we “Something I Can Never Have” envious people, need to rest in gratitude and contentment for what they have.
These chains:
Shackle us to selfishness
Clamp our compassion
Fasten our desire to offer forgiveness
Latch us to loneliness
And padlock our potential
There is another chain that anchors us to our past.
I Screwed Up!
I screwed up!
Monday I wrote that we have One Love That Is Shared By Two.
Tuesday followed with The Vows We Keep.
Wednesday I celebrated with a Happy 25th Anniversary to US!
Thursday I looked ahead believing that it was The First Day of the 2nd 25 Years.
Friday, I’m aware I screwed up.
I knew it wouldn’t take long.
I’m not perfect, and never claimed to be, but, seriously, it only took one day!?!
Let Me Explain
