Secrets

Posted on Monday, March 4, 2013 in Uncategorized

communicationcomputer-23713_640Charles Dickens wrote, “A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other.”

We are fascinated by secrets, rumors and gossip.

I used to be offended by a statement like that until it became obvious.

“Obvious?!?”, someone might argue.

Maybe secrets, rumors and gossip are not the fascination of everyone, but how else can you explain:
– The popularity of fantasy sports & their paid “Insider” features
– The popularity of TMZ & the volumes of celebrity gossip
– The illegality of insider trading
– The mumblings and rumblings as most school lunch tables

Watch The Way You Talk

Posted on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Uncategorized

Watch the way you talk — don’t use foul or abusive language, stop all your dirty talk, do not say harmful things, do not let any unwholesome talk come out, nothing foul or dirty — say the right thing at the right time — each word a gift, good and helpful — and help others by what you say.

Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them; say what people need — words that will help others become stronger — words for building others become stronger so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them, that it may benefit those who listen. 1

Twitter Petition

Posted on Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

I want to start a petition so Twitter.com offers a one-time-use 313 character exception!

On Twitter I follow family and friends, athletes and musicians, world-changers, and beat writers, but nothing, nothing, nothing has made me wanna tweet and re-tweet more than this:

Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.” 1

Ever Feel Alone?

Posted on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Uncategorized

You tried, and tried, and tried, and failed.
You tried to make him happy and didn’t.
You tried to make her happy and didn’t.

You tried, and tried, and tried, and failed.

And Now…

You feel frustrated because life sucks, and your daydream begins to feel like a nightmare.  “My days are over. My hopes have disappeared. My heart’s desires are broken.” 1

And people find out what happened.  They start talking about what they think happened.  They start guessing what you did, or what you could have or should have done.  Then they start gossiping, “Their insults have broken my heart…If only one person would show some pity; if only one would turn and comfort me.” 2

What’s a Neighbor to Do?

Posted on Friday, April 20, 2012 in Uncategorized

Welcome today to our friends from Chris Spradlin’s insightful and practical EpicParent.

Chris was gracious enough to allow me to guest post on EpicParent today.  You can read “You’re Not Alone!!” here.

Let me catch you all up.

This week we took a look at fifteen year old Desean’s choice to come home drunk.

We took a look at his scenario from three perspectives:

What’s A Mom To Do?

What’s A Dad To Do?

What’s a Best Friend to Do?

Today we’ll consider what a neighbor should and should not do.

Gossip Destroys Friendships

Posted on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in Uncategorized

People find many reasons to justify passing on “news”, gossiping and creating drama.  Few practices wound, terrorize and corrupt churches more than gossips.

Gossip-Filled Living Is An Old Problem

The Apostle Paul a couple thousand years ago battled gossips in church.  “For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.” 1

Church attendance alone has never solved corrupt living.
