Dating Drama – Betrayed & Broken-Hearted

Posted on Monday, February 18, 2013 in Uncategorized

broken_heart_picLast Friday began a series that will run all week called Dating Drama.  Whether you’re dating or not, you know someone who is.  This might be a chance for you to contribute, comment and encourage those who are.

Some people have great relationships, some not.

Friday night my boyfriend texted me. He dumped me; by TEXT!

When I asked him for an explanation, his reply was, “What are you talking about? I didn’t break up with you.” Apparently, he had meant the text for someone else. He was breaking up with another girlfriend (that I didn’t know about).

Helen Keller

Posted on Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

I always look for heroes to admire.

Helen Keller, and those who cared for Helen, especially Anne Sullivan are people worthy of admiration.

Helen Keller was not born blind and deaf; it was not until she was 19 months old that she contracted an illness which left her deaf and blind.

I read this quote from Helen Keller and felt inspired.

I want to say to those who are trying to learn to speak and those who are teaching them: Be of good cheer.

Do not think of today’s failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow.

Ray Lewis & Curtis Eichelberger

Posted on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in Uncategorized

A few months ago I read Men of Sunday: How Faith Guides the Players, Coaches, and Wives of the NFL by Curtis Eichelberger.

I loved the book. This Super Bowl Sunday let me add a quote from to add to your day:

“I close the book with a chapter on leadership, and who better to focus on than Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis?

The former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player built his own leadership style around the tenets of Christianity and God’s teachings. Here, we learn that leadership starts with serving others, not giving commands.

Lessons from Lachers – Love

Posted on Friday, February 1, 2013 in Uncategorized

During our visit with Eric and Jill Lacher we marveled at their love.

Though they have similar hearts and values, they began their relationships with very different strategies for living out those values.

During our visit they shared with us that the wisdom of Emerson Eggerichs has helped them to grow deeper in love and express it more effectively to one another. On their behalf and to our benefit here’s some of what they learned.

Lessons from Lachers – Jill

Posted on Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Uncategorized

My wife and I traveled to California recently to see our friends Jill & Eric Lacher.  In the past few days I told tales of Sierra, Max and Eric. In this fourth installment of “Lessons from Lachers” I’m going to tell you about Jill.

For several years I worked with Jill Lacher at a remarkable place called TreeHouse. At TreeHouse Jill was able to captivate people — teens and adults — with her friendly and outgoing personality.

At TreeHouse Jill was legendary for her kindness, compassion and care for others; and the occasional late-start to a meeting because she was helping someone. As Eric explained, “with Jill, compassion trumps time.”

Welcome To The Family

Posted on Monday, January 7, 2013 in Uncategorized

I have some friends who are choosing to start a new or refreshed relationship with God.

Those decisions made me think of these wise works:

“To live as God’s child is to know, at this very instant, that you are loved by your Maker
– NOT because you try to please God and succeed,
– OR fail to please God and apologize,
– BUT because God wants to be your Father. Nothing more.

All your efforts to win God’s affection are unnecessary.
All your fears of losing God’s affection are needless.

Our Journey Our Fear

Posted on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in Uncategorized

Jesus Christ’s journey meant that he spent time at parties, dinners, friends’ houses, and enemies’ houses.

He learned.
He listened.

He told jokes.
He gave hugs.
He laughed.

Jesus explained to the the people, “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.

The Pharisees objected, ‘All we have is your word on this. We need more than this to go on.‘” 1

I couldn’t agree more.
Not with Jesus.
With the Pharisees.

The Journey

Posted on Monday, December 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

The Journey Is As Important As the Destination

Traveling through the Twin Cities today has been anything but easy.
– Lengthy delays
– Slippery streets
– Stressed drivers
– Exhausted snowplow drivers
– Anxious bus drivers
– Fed up commuters
– Snow-day praying students who got a “no” answer

Our Destination

Our destination is just a tiny slice of our journey.
– We worry about approval
– We strain toward goals
– We stretch for benchmarks
– We dream about the future
– And too often we miss the present

When we’re fixated on the next, we miss the now.

Contentment Leads To Generosity

Posted on Monday, November 26, 2012 in Uncategorized

As I was approaching fifty years old I sought the wisdom of my elders. I sought out men and women older than I was to learn lessons on life that they had been learning.

Monday I began a series entitled A Treasure Chest Of Wisdom, including:

1. Don’t Hold Grudges
2. Take Care Of Your Health.
3. Compassion Makes Sense and Giving Is Better Than Taking
4. Greed Gains Momentum

5. Gratitude Leads To Contentment

Gratitude Leads To Contentment

Instead of focusing on what we don’t have, it’s important to be grateful for the amazing gifts we already have.
