Save Me by Staind

Posted on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Uncategorized

“Just save me … from all that I am.”

“Save me” is a phrase I can relate to, both in a theological sense, but also to be saved from the consequences of misdeeds, misguided decisions, relational disappointments and circumstantial despair.

“Just save me … from all that I am” is a plea of the broken. Like a displaced broken bone that needs to be reset, repentance – as I’ve heard Ruth Haley Barton say – is a “death that needs to happen.”

It’s true that Save Me by Aaron Lewis and Staind is not a worship song, nor explicitly a theological song, but it sounds very much like some of the heartache in the Psalms.

The psalmist sang, “Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.” 1

Wanting violent vengeance the psalmist sang, “By your hand save me from such people, Lord.” 2

Desperate the psalmist seems to shout, “Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.” 3

Guilty, the psalmist pleas, “Save me from all my transgressions; do not make me the scorn of fools.” 4

And, it’s so bad I’m drowning, “Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.” 5

Listen to “Save Me” and see if you can relate to his thoughts and feelings too.

Save Me

This dark road
Another cigarette
I’m getting sick of this
The end is near
I’m in the thick of it
And I’ll be there soon
If you can handle it

Just save me
From all that I am
You save me
For the f**k of it
Save me
Just hold out your hand
You save me
From all of it

I try to speak myself
You can do it too
I need no one’s help
I’m needing only you
So just pray for me
And deliver it
You never take from me
What I’m giving

Just save me
From all that I am
You save me
For the f**k of it
Save me
Just hold out your hand
You save me
From all of it

And all that I’ve become
Is you
The only good in me
Is you
And after all of this
The day will come to find out
Will you take me
Or forsake me
So pray for me
Am I forgiven
For what you take from me

Just save me
From all that I am
You save me
For the f**k of it
Save me
Just hold out your hand
You save me
From all of it
Come save me

Pray for me
Am I forgiven

The Bible explains that without faith in Christ we are all separated from God. I pray for Aaron Lewis, as I pray for all #mysilentscream readers that in honest repentance we will all admit our need to be saved: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” 6
