Oceanside

IMG_5683This coming weekend I will be on a retreat. I’ve been on many retreats. Some of my favorite retreats have been TreeHouse retreats. The images I will be featuring on #mysilentscream this week will be from works of “art” I created on various TreeHouse staff retreats.

I know of no art medium that covers up bad art skills more than pastels. So when my friend Jill challenged me to create art with pastels in hand I was less afraid of failure and rejection for my lack of skills.

With an unsteady hand and a smattering of resolve I created my first piece of pastel art. I took the pastels in my hand and looked out the window. There was the Florida coast, itself a work of art. The Creator’s artwork.

The Creator wo said, “I, the LORD, am the one who defines the ocean’s sandy shoreline, an everlasting boundary that the waters cannot cross. The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the bounds I set.“1

“Never pass the bounds I set”?  That’s artistic license I’d like to quibble with; alongside those who have witnessed a seaside flood, a hurricane or a tsunami.

  1. Hi Scott!
Love that you pull out your art experience, feeling inspiration and then go beyond to yet inspire others once again. Our Florida time together was so special. Thanks for sharing the memories again!
You were brave that day to go with the flow as you created art. I remember the concern and how you busted through resulting in once again, something quite beautiful!
    Love you Scott!
    Jill

  2. Jill, what a great gift you have been and still are to me even half a country away! Thank you for your encouraging and kind words!
