My Story, Day 6

Posted on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 in Uncategorized

Hey everyone!

I needed some time to read, reflect, pray and write.

So, I wrote Tuesdays & Wednesdays posts late Monday night.

On Thursday I’m writing about my kids, Josh & Shannon.

Today you get one of my favorite photos of the four of us.  As you can see the kids were tired of taking pictures but I am so glad that we took just one more.

This picture was taken during one of my favorite and most emotional days of my life.

June 13, 1997 – Vow Renewal Ceremony

Amy and I renewed our wedding vows on our tenth anniversary.  It was an amazing, special day to celebrate our love.

Accompanied by our kids, Josh [age 5] & Shannon [almost 7], our parents, many friends, many TreeHouse teens and their parents we had the ceremony at the Brooklyn Park TreeHouse.  Our dear friend Wayne Thyren officiated.  It was a great day to celebrate our love and the value of faithfulness.

It Was A Music-filled Celebration

We had booked two music acts for the reception.  Pegtop, a wonderfully talented local folk-rock trio agreed to join us.  And, Mark Johnson’s band “Better Than Nothing”.

Amy has a beautiful voice, and she sang to me during the ceremony.

And, in one of the smartest, most romantic ideas I ever had I sang to Amy.

I sang Depeche Mode’s song Somebody. It’s a song so perfect that when my friend Dave Murphy heard it he thought that I had written the lyrics.

I said I “sang”, actually I sang the first half, and then choked and cried my way through the rest.

Not a pretty sight, and I’m sure it sounded really bad, but a really good idea.

Give Depeche Mode’s Somebody a listen.  Music & lyrics are here on youtube.

Somebody

I want somebody to share, share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts, know my intimate details
Someone who’ll stand by my side and give me support
And in return she’ll get my support

She will listen to me when I want to speak
About the world we live in and life in general

Though my views may be wrong, they may even be perverted
She’ll hear me out, and won’t easily be converted
To my way of thinking in fact she’ll often disagree
But at the end of it all she will understand me

Aaa

I want somebody who cares for me passionately
With every thought and with every breath
Someone who’ll help me see things in a different light
All the things I detest I will almost like

I don’t want to be tied to anyone’s strings
I’m carefully trying to steer clear of those things
But when I’m asleep I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me, kiss me tenderly

Though things like this make me sick
In a case like this I’ll get away with it
Aaa
Ooh ohh

Ooh….Aah
