My Story, Day 2

Posted on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Uncategorized

Yesterday “My Story” captured parents, presents and my pigeon-toed childhood.  You’ll find it here.

Today you’ll meet my sister Kristie.

My Sister

I grew up in suburban Chicago with my mom, dad, and sister, Kristie.

This is my sister Kristie and me.  It’s one of my favorite pictures of us together.  I would like to say we were always this sweet, cute and happy.

We often were, unless I was being selfish, impatient or a brat.  You know, I really love my sister and I always have, but somehow in the midst of wanting to control the TV — or something else equally trivial — stupid attitudes intervened far too often.

As we grew up our three and a half year age difference meant we were seldom in the same school, circle of friends or chose the same activities.

As the years passed our age differences meant little, but time, distance and busyness did.  I moved to Wisconsin, then Minnesota.  My sister moved to California, then Arizona. Hundreds of miles, and life journeys which sometimes seem even farther away, has separated us, but we have both been professionally successful and personally happy.

My sister is bright, intelligent, thoughtful, creative, wise and this month she’s getting ready for the wedding of her eldest son, Ed.

Excursus – Mom & Dad, there are no guarantees in parenting — other than “It will be hard.  It will hurt. And, it will have to involve God.” — but looking back over almost fifty years you’ll have to acknowledge that you did well!

It doesn’t happen often, but I love when I get to see Kristie and her family.  She and her husband Rob have great kids and great values.

This photo is my most recent favorite of us.

Kris & Rob blessed us with their company and Rob’s great photography skills captured the moment.  Thanks you guys!
