Living in Tension, Pt. 3

Posted on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Uncategorized

It’s true, there are a lot of hypocritical & judgmental Christians, but the Bible was written by real people like you and me.

The Bible was inspired by a real God who knows we struggle and doesn’t want us to settle for just being who we’ve been.

Rather than slipping into pretense the Bible wants us to embrace honesty. If you struggle, struggle; but if when you struggle, don’t settle.

Paul, a struggling man confessed to his tension in trying to follow God, and then explained his hope:

Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

We settle when we feel trapped. The Bible says that God does not want us to stay trapped. God wants to free us.

When I was younger I could easily have been known as someone who was “a slave to sin.” I was known for many things but integrity was not one of them.

Integrity is doing the right thing whether anyone knows or not.

Despite my past I am becoming a person of integrity. Talk is cheap. It’s hard work to be a person of integrity. To say “NO!” when others want you to say yes.

The challenge for you, and the challenge for me, is when we struggle, don’t settle.

God wants to set us free “from the power of sin that leads to death.” We have to ask: “Please God help me.”

We need God’s help not to settle. Will you settle?

When you struggle will you admit to God you need help and choose to follow Jesus?
