Today’s my son Josh’s 21st birthday. If you want you can bless him with your happy birthday wishes here is his Facebook page.
Twenty-one years ago Amy, my wife, and I had to decide what name we would choose if we had a little boy. We went back and forth trying to pick the perfect name.
Finally we landed on Joshua Scott which means, “God is my salvation as I wander along.”
It’s a fitting name.
In many ways Josh is growing up from a stubbornly independent toddler into a respect-worthy honorable man. I asked him tonight what kept him from choosing some of the foolish choices that people he knows chose. Josh replied, “I was brought up right, and taught right from wrong.”
The Scriptures explain that principle this way:
“Train children to live the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray from it.” 1
“Teach your children right from wrong, and when they are grown they will still do right.” 2
It’s not a guarantee, but it’s another time-honored principle.
Today as Josh becomes a twenty-one year old he’s a son and a brother. He’s a loyal friend and working employee. He’s a learner and a leader.
He’s admirable and one of my heroes.
Congratulations on “21” Josh!
