Frigid Temps Frozen Hearts

frozen_heart_by_ttojA tank of gas
A charged battery
Approaching the car
With a silent plea

A capable driver
Determined as could be
Key in the ignition
Cranked one-two-three

A pause to regather
A second attempt
A hope and a prayer
Discouragement tempt

Barely a flicker
Not even a purr
The car didn’t start
A frozen heart.

Frozen Heart

I have TWO hearts!
One warmed by love.
One frozen in the freezer.

Too often the frozen heart has been more obvious.
I’m so busy caring about my wants, I forget to care about their needs.

The lady with undisciplined children.
The man on the corner with a sign.
My frozen heart ignores those in need.

The businessman with a dismissive glace.
The beautiful woman with a judging look.
My frozen heart attacks back.

Homelessness.
Helplessness.
Haughty and hateful.
Jesus Christ loved them all!
And he still does.

Frozen Hearts

One day Jesus asked some people like me, “Why are you thinking such things in your heart?” 1 Jesus cared about the broken enough to heal. He cared about the broken enough to confront. And he still does.

He asked them and he asks me, “Don’t you know or understand even yet? Are your hearts too hard to take it in? Are your eyes blind and your ears deaf? You have eyes, but you don’t really see. You have ears, but you don’t really listen.” 2

It’s a fair question
on this frigid day
“Am I content with frozen?
“Will it stay this way?”

2 – Mark 8:17-18, a mashup of translations
