Embrace Your Uniqueness

Posted on Monday, May 16, 2011 in Uncategorized

I’m a mystery. I’m an anomaly.  I’m unique.  I often choose a road that seems different than the roads others travel or think I should travel.

It seems like the greatest psychologists, analysts, and detectives the world has ever know would have a field day with me.

Why do I do what I do?

It’s obvious that we self-reflect when we make mistakes.  Why?  Why?  Wby did I do THAT?

Self-reflection and assessment is common, and normal, at least for mentally healthy people.

I like to wonder why I do what I do, not just after the mistakes I make — but yeah, I still wonder what the *&^%*& I was thinking when I … — but why do I do the good things too?

Why do I stop for stranded motorists?

Push stalled cars?  Kneel in church when everyone else is standing?

Why do I compliment strangers, but hate small talk?

Why do I swear most often when I play video games alone?

Walk through fresh snow?

Laugh at my own jokes?

Snowboard through the woods?

Play unpopular music?

Watch TV shows that “no one likes”?

And, why, oh why, do I waste so much time?

Fortunately, I’m not the only one who struggles with that.

Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.

An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath. 1

While it might seem like we have all the time in the world, we don’t.  There are few things we can count on in life, but one thing we know for certain is that our bodies will die.  My body, your body, will die.  Our bodies were created for this planet, but our souls are created to last beyond time.  You have one soul that is uniquely you, that is created by our Creator to live eternally, forever.

God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end” 2

That’s right, at just the right time, God created a perfect world; sunshine and starry nights; fresh and clean air and water; beautiful plants, fresh fruit and veggies everywhere.  All the animals would come right up to you because they were never afraid that you would hurt them.  You would be friends with everyone, everyone.  No one would even think of being mean to you.  No one would put you down, rip you off, tick you off or hurt you.  And those of you who can’t even think of a life like that, you wouldn’t have even missed the fighting.  You would live with the freedom and peace you were created to have.

That was God’s plan.

At just the right time God created people with a free will to choose to follow their creator or not.  Sadly, they like us, choose selfishly; choose to do it our own way.  That’s when sin, choosing what is against the Creator’s rules, entered the world..

The peaceful planet became complicated.  God knew it would happen…

God knew I’d be me.  God knew you’d be you.
