Embrace Freedom, Experience Reconciliation

Posted on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Uncategorized

Perhaps you’ve watched one of these recent films The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian or more recently, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  Each of the movies is based on a novel by C.S. Lewis.

Lewis was a teacher, writer and theologian. He wrote books which were witty and wise, warm and welcoming.

Beware Freedom Which Relies On People

CS Lewis, wrote in his book Mere Christianity, “Beware “relying on human beings. (They’re) going to let us down. The best of them will make mistakes; all of them will die. We must be thankful to all the people who have helped us, we must honour them and love them. But never, never pin your whole faith on any human being: not if he is the best and wisest in the whole world. There are lots of nice things you can do with sand; but do not try building a house on it.”

Embrace Freedom Which Rests On Reconciliation

“The reason we suffer from the problems caused by the fear of rejection is that we have wrongly believed Satan’s lie.  We crave friendship and love, and turn to others to meet these needs.  As we have already discovered most people let us down, and fail to meet these needs.  Fortunately, God has a wonderful solution for meeting our need for approval.  That solution is RECONCILIATION.” 1

Reconciliation is a big word, but its’ meaning is simple.  It means that those who were enemies have become friends.  Though we were once enemies of God, because of Christ, we are now His very closest friends.

Again, Beware Freedom Which Relies On People

“The problem is when we decide to make somebody our comfort, they will let us down every single time. Now I need to know somebody knows that besides me…People will always let us down.  I let people down.  You let people down.  Life is hard, there is no getting around that, but there is a way through it.”  2

Embrace Freedom – 5 Benefits of Reconciliation

In my experience God is always here to talk to.

God has carried me when I had no strength.

God has listened and sat with me when I had nothing to say.

God has shown me a way out when I was blind.

God has taught me to listen when I was deaf.

God has given me direction when I was lost.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!  And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.” 3

More than any other book, Brother Laurence’s Practicing The Presence of God taught me to pray anytime anywhere to a God who is always here looking to be in a relationship with me and you.

  1. “Now I need to know somebody knows that besides me…People will always let us down. I let people down. You let people down.”. I know this too Scott. I believe how we act toward people who let us down and vice versa plays an important role in developing our Christ like Character. Thanks again for the wise words!
