Don’t Fear Love – Pt 12 of 10 – To Love Is A Decision

Posted on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Uncategorized

To love is a decision.

Want to be more loving?  Decide to be more loving.

The other day I quoted biblical writer Paul of Tarsus who wrote about love:

God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient. Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.” [Colossians 3:12-14, CEV]

While some of you may not know or believe in God the writer challenges those of us who do to make a decision. I believe his words apply to all of us.

In English these words sound like a suggestion, but when they were first written in Greek the words “so be” had power.  “So be” really meant “So make a decisive life-changing choice”.  The author Paul challenged the readers that regardless what kind of person they had been that now they should decide, once and for all time, to “be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.”  And while they might slip back into old ways of doing things, there new way of doing things would result in them being more loving.

The same is true for us too.

If we choose to “be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient” we would also become more loving.  And, why is that so important?  Because “love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.”

Regardless what kind of person you have been, even when you might slip back into your old ways of doing things if you want to be more loving, decide to be more loving.
