Compassion & Generosity
As I was approaching fifty years old I sought the wisdom of my elders. I sought out men and women older than I was to learn lessons on life that they had been learning.
Monday I began a series entitled A Treasure Chest Of Wisdom.
The first lesson the wise would teach us is Don’t Hold Grudges
The second lesson was Take Care Of Your Health.
Compassion Makes Sense
Compassion is more important than pleasure. Many people intentionally blind themselves to the needs of others. When I didn’t listen to my mom my mom would call it “selective listening.”
That’s like putting our pleasure ahead of the suffering of others.
Compassion is a much more fulfilling way to live than closing your eyes to suffering.
Giving Is Better Than Taking
Giving is so much better than getting.
– Give with no expectation of getting something in return, and it becomes a purer, more beautiful act.
– Too often we give something and expect to get an equal measure in return — at least get some gratitude or recognition for our efforts.
– Try to let go of that need, and just give.

Scott,
You have become a wise one indeed. We all become wise if we slow down long enough and really listen to our own hearts. The hearts that God created for good. The hearts that don’t let our own selves take center stage. The hearts that can’t help but want to ease another’s suffering. That is a heart that I see in you, and I am thankful for friends like you who share their hearts with others like me.
Happy Thanksgiving! I am truly grateful.

Your so kind and gracious Julia!
Readers, this was among Julia’s tweets yesterday:
“Trader Joes – check. Choose table cloth – check. Start wild rice – check. Stop at food shelf to drop off donations – DO IT! #HungerInAmerica”
Let’s follow Julia’s example and be gracious and generous.
