Bruno, What’s On Your Mind?

Posted on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in Uncategorized

Bruno1_30pAccording to a FOX Sports press release there were 115.3 million of us watching Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform during the PEPSI SUPER BOWL XLVIII HALFTIME SHOW.

I love drum solos; and as Bruno Mars began the show with a drum solo, I was like “Woah, he’s good.” As Bruno began to sing the crowd that filled our basement were impressed too: “He’s talented.” “YEAH!” Later my daughter Shannon added, “That’s a sweet voice.”

Someone said, “It doesn’t look like he’s lip-syncing.” I didn’t think he was, but I don’t know. I wanted him to be able to drum, sing, dance and do all that without running out of breath; despite the fact that racing up a long set of stairs has made me pause for oxygen.

It got me thinking, “Can I trust that this is really him singing live? Or, is it just a recording?”

I wasn’t much of a Bruno Mars’ fan, but it got he thinking: Great voice, very talented, but what’s he saying?

Bruno, What’s On Your Mind?

He began with Locked Out Of Heaven.

‘Cause your sex takes me to paradise
Yeah, your sex takes me to paradise
And it shows, yeah, yeah, yeah

Bruno continued with a transition to Treasure.
He began, “Put your hands together!” and thousands of fans clapped along.

Give me your, give me your, give me your attention, baby
I gotta tell you a little something about yourself
You’re wonderful, flawless, ooh, you’re a sexy lady
But you walk around here like you wanna be someone else

Beautiful voice. Great showmanship. And a little discretion – I checked on this three different ways – the original version of Treasure actually begins, “Baby squirrel, you’s a sexy motherf****r.” I’m glad he spared all 115 million of us that line!

From Treasure to Runaway Baby, Bruno led us along.

Well looky here looky here
Ah what do we have?
Another pretty thang ready for me to grab
But little does she know
That I’m a wolf in sheep’s clothing
‘Cause at the end of the night
It is her I’ll be holding

At least he admits, “I’m a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” He continues with a great band, tight dancing, sweet smiles, and a revealing warning.

Run run runaway, runaway baby
Before I put my spell on you
You better get get getaway get away darling
‘Cause everything you heard is true
Your poor little heart will end up alone

Tight dancing, sweet smiles, smooth words and misguided hopes have left many of us feeling very alone.

Bruno, What’s On Your Mind?

Nevermind. I know.

More importantly…
What if it was really your life?
What if you didn’t notice and got hurt?
What if you didn’t run and regretted it?
What if you thought things would be different but they weren’t?

Relationship-regrets. Shame. Blame. Forgiveness. Hope is coming!
