In the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) most teams who face a three games to one deficit in a best of seven game series lose. In fact, according to NHL.com faced with such odds only 8.7% of teams recover.
That’s right 91.3% of all teams facing that kind of pressure fade and fall. Yesterday, my favorite team, the Chicago Blackhawks, beat the odds. After having fallen behind the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 they overcame the odds, their fears and the critiques of their fans and the media.
Against the Odds
In my personal and professional worlds I have met many people who face great odds.
Every day at work I mentor teens whose lives have been the definition of “against the odds.” It’s less than two weeks left in the school year and two teens moved out of the district last weekend or this week.
How are they going to focus on their year-end projects?
How can they focus on finals when they’re making final decisions about what gets to move and what gets tossed?
They, like people you know – maybe even you – feel tossed.
For them, for you and for me, there’s hope!
I’m very excited about the series this introduces called Against the Odds. I think it will be inspirational, insightful and practical.
