June 13, 1987, that’s our wedding day.
My wife and I have a monthly tradition to celebrate all “13th” of the month.
Like most couples we celebrate our anniversary each year.
Today we’re adding another tradition I hope happens again.
We’re now celebrating every 10,000 days too. =)
Today is our 10k-wedding-day anniversary!
When I was a kid I hated math homework, but, over the years I’ve learned that I love math. Now, my favorite part of following sports is the analytics. 1
A couple years ago I was doing some math. One thing led to another and I figured out how many days we had been married. Thanks to Google Calendar I set a reminder years ahead.
So, Happy 10k Wedding-Day Anniversary Amy!
When we celebrated our 25th anniversary I wrote about our wedding day. While we were planning the wedding I lobbied (and lost) for Depeche Mode’s Somebody to be one of our wedding songs. I love the lyrics, the sentiment, the sincerity and the silliness.
Today ten thousand days later Amy and I have spend a good chunk of our lives and I love how this song has played out in our lives and marriage. 2
Give Depeche Mode’s Somebody a listen. Music & lyrics are here on youtube.
I want somebody to share, share the rest of my life
Share my innermost thoughts, know my intimate details
Someone who’ll stand by my side and give me support
And in return she’ll get my support
She will listen to me when I want to speak
About the world we live in and life in general
Though my views may be wrong, they may even be perverted
She’ll hear me out, and won’t easily be converted
To my way of thinking in fact she’ll often disagree
But at the end of it all she will understand me. Aah.
I want somebody who cares for me passionately
With every thought and with every breath
Someone who’ll help me see things in a different light
All the things I detest I will almost like
I don’t want to be tied to anyone’s strings
I’m carefully trying to steer clear of those things
But when I’m asleep I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me, kiss me tenderly
Though things like this make me sick
In a case like this I’ll get away with it
#mysilentscream: I can’t guarantee you a Happy 10k Wedding-Day Anniversary, but I wrote Keep Your Love Alive to encourage, inspire and challenge readers to deepen their love-life, their friendships and their relationships in their community.
When Amy I began dating I wanted to love Amy, really love Amy, but I didn’t know how. I didn’t know that I knew what loving relationships really looked like, or even could look like.
So I asked questions, read books, listened to experts and learned and learned. Fortunately, I even applied some of it.
1 – I might have said celebrating victories but I’ve been a Chicago Cubs fan all my life. As sick as it might be, all the Chicago Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears championships don’t dull much of the pain of the Cubs defeats.
2 – Insert an almost smug, self-satisfied smirk here. I knew it was an appropriate song!
